The District Grand Lodge of Madras is the administrative and controlling body for all English Constitution Freemasons' Lodges operating in the states of Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, and Karnataka. These four states are collectively referred to as the District of Madras for Masonic purposes. Functioning under the authority of the United Grand Lodge of England (UGLE), the District Grand Lodge of Madras operates within the framework set out in the UGLE’s Book of Constitutions. It provides governance, coordination, and regulatory oversight to ensure consistency, integrity, and operational excellence across all its constituent Lodges.
In addition to its regulatory role, the District Grand Lodge of Madras plays an important part in coordinating inter-Lodge activities, hosting official visits, organizing District-level meetings and events, and facilitating communication between the constituent Lodges and the United Grand Lodge of England. The District also supports structured training, administrative guidance, and ceremonial support for the effective functioning of each Lodge within its jurisdiction.
